Corporate Finance
Mark's corporate finance work ranges from advice to start up companies, company restructurings and reorganisations, lending and secured lending and transactional work through to listing companies on international exchanges including the New York Stock Exchange. Asset sales, share sales, shareholders agreements and drafting bespoke articles of association are core parts of his work. His work has been recognised through the award of an Advanced Diploma in Corporate Finance from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
Commercial and European Law
In the commercial arena Mark has advised on commercial issues to a wide range of companies from international European insurers on their regulatory and compliance issues to joint venture arrangements and commercial agreements for national utility companies and regional development agencies. He is experienced in European law issues including dealing with the EU Commission on competition, clearance and compliance issues. He regularly reviews terms and conditions of trade for clients.
Franchise and Employment Law
Mark has built a substantial reputation in franchise matters and both offices of the firm now boast affiliate members of the British Franchise Association of which he is one. He advises both franchisors and franchisees. He is also a member of the Employment Lawyers Association, often advising directors on their service agreements and employment issues particularly where these have links to shareholdings in their companies. He is a member of the International Franchise Lawyers' Association.
Intellectual Property
Within the realm of intellectual property Mark is a qualified Associate Trade Mark Attorney, gained an Advanced Award from Bristol University in Intellectual Property Law (including copyright, designs, trade marks and patents) and has also passed various examinations of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys in United Kingdom trade mark law and practice and overseas trade mark law and practice. He regularly deals with the Intellectual Property Office and the Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market as well as advising on applications under the Madrid Protocol on International Trade Marks. He is an Associate Member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys, a member of the International Trade Mark Association and an Associate Member of the Institute of Patentees and Inventors.
International and Maritime Law
In terms of international law Mark has gained Advanced Awards from Bristol University in both International Law and International Law of the Sea and has previously advised a number of nation states including Her Majesty's Government. He is currently a member of the Maritime Boundaries Committee of the British Branch of the International Law Association and a judge of the Jessup International Law Moot Competition.
Marine Law
Mark advises marine industry designers and manufacturers on a regular basis including issues concerning yachts, superyachts, submersibles, security organisations and other marine related industries in Europe and further afield. He is the firm's representative on the British Marine Federation and a member of the British Maritime Law Association. As a former HM Coastguard and transatlantic yachtsman he is currently a Mate with the Rona Sailing Project, qualified RYA Yachtmaster (Coastal) with Commercial Endorsement and holds a diploma in the International Law of the Sea from Bristol University.
