We advise on law relating to patents including their registration. If you have a novel idea it may be possible to obtain a monopoly in the exploitation of that idea for 20 years.
The process by which patents are prepared for registration is a complex and specialist task. It is therefore essential that you seek our advice at an early opportunity so that you are on the right track from the start.
We will be able to advise you as to the overall registrability of your invention and in particular whether it is novel and involves an inventive step. We will be able to conduct the appropriate searches for you to discover if there is any prior art which may potentially defeat or restrict your application. We will also be able to assist you in relation to the drafting of a specification, claims and abstract for the purposes of completing the patent application.
Working closely with the UK Intellectual Property Office we will be able to advise you as to whether or not your proposed patent application is likely to succeed and maximise the chances of it being acceptable to the authorities.
When the appropriate checks and searches have been completed we will then be in a position to advise you whether or not to proceed to register.
For certain very highly specialised typed of patents we may with your authority engage external advisors to assist in the preparation of the application and we are always anxious to include your input at every stage of the preparation of the application.
